I’m a Nickelodeon ’90s Kid

Today, I spent more than half of the day watching episodes of Kenan & Kel, and it made miss my childhood again.

I remembered back when I was about 6-7, that whenever I’d turn on the television, it would always be on Nickelodeon and nothing else, because that’s where all the shows that I loved watching were. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Cartoon Network also, but there was something much more sophisticated and more intelligent with Nickelodeon’s shows (how the hell did I come up with that thought back when I was 7?).

Kenan & Kel. All That. Rocko’s Modern Life. SpongeBob SquarePants. Ahhh! Real Monsters. CatDog. Legends of the Hidden Temple. Global Gutz. Figure It Out. Kablam! Action League NOW. Ren & Stimpy. Rugrats. Hey Arnold. Those were the shows that I grew up with. Those were the shows that made me happy to be a kid. Those shows made my childhood special.

I’d remember that I used to stay up until 11 pm(Wow, how late) on a school night just to get to watch all of my fave shows on Nickelodeon, and whenever I woke up in the morning to get ready for school, Nickelodeon was on. Whenever I got home from school, I’d turn on the television and flip the channel to Nickelodeon; My childhood life was all about watching Nickelodeon, 24/7.

Lately, I’ve been trying to watch some Nickelodeon again, and it just saddens me that the generation now has to be contented with very mediocre shows. I mean, they’re not as good as they used to be. The only shows that I really watch are still the old ones, whenever they find the time to air them, which is usually around this time of night, after hours. Those new “drama” teen shows that they show on Nick are pretty crappy. What happened to those shows that made you laugh for no apparent reason? Hell, I even hated it when they relaunched All That because it was too immature, not like the original, which was for kids, but it wasn’t that stupid; It never had to make stupid jokes or gags, such as using too much toilet humor.

I miss those shows that made you happy to be a kid. Those shows right now on Nick and on Disney make kids want to grow up, and that’s not right. Being a kid is awesome. Please, make those television shows make us feel good about being a kid, being young.

That is why I hate Disney Channel, because they make kids want to fucking grow up.

I’m a ’90s kid. I’m still a kid.
